This artwork was created for the Commemorative events that marked 50 years of Integration of the Little Rock Central High School. Nine black students braved the angry and violent white protesters and became the first students of color to go to Central High School. The situation became a crisis of national scale when the National Guard was called in to enforce the integration and protect the black students from the mob. The original watercolor portrays the Little Rock Nine as they were in 2007 standing together with the diverse student body that followed them. In the memory pool the nine students are seen reflected as they were back in 1957, alone with the angry mob of protesters behind them. The painting is on permanent exhibit at the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site Visitor Center.
